What is Kali-Silat?
Our Dojo teaches Aneh Palu Kali-Silat. Aneh Palu is Indonesian for “Weird Hammer” and is a combination of various skill sets from the Filipino arts of Kali, Arnis, Eskrima and Kuntaw and a few skill sets of the Indonesian art of Pencak Silat. It is a well-rounded art which will teach practitioners to be well-versed in the various ranges of combat.
How does Kali-Silat differ from Judo and Jujitsu?
Judo and Jujitsu are focused almost exclusively with grappling. Kali, while is generally consider it to be a stick-based art, and does use rattan sticks, includes kicking, boxing, in-fighting and grappling. Pencak Silat features all several aspects of unarmed combat, from kicking to grappling, with a focus on brutal efficiency.
Weapons are also integral to Kali-Silat, in which we teach a variety of edged, impact, flexible and improvised weapons concurrently with empty hand skills. Judo and Jujitsu, by contrast, focus exclusively on unarmed techniques.
Why Learn Kali-Silat?
Like Judo and Jujitsu, Kali-Silat is great for self-defense and developing or maintaining fitness. Aneh Palu Kali-Silat can enhance known expertise or be the basis for developing striking and weapons skills, or incorporating the same with grappling. Several of out members cross-train to improve improve their striking and improvised weapons skills for self-defense situations.
